Intertwining Currents
These works were created for the 'Traces of Us' group exhibition for a city wide art event named Nuit Blanche in Toronto, Ontario. 'Traces of Us' was helmed and curated by Ignazio Colt Nicastro of IC Contemporary.
"'Intertwining Currents’ is a digital and audio representation of the union between two people who let go of their culture, safety, and ultimately, a part of themselves, in the pursuit of love across international borders. It’s a quest so colossal yet made with such ease, as all things are when our souls are touched by love. I am of a mixed background, with Chinese and British parents, and created this series as a response to my parents’ journey to one another from Hong Kong and Cornwall, England.

I aim to capture the feelings I encountered when learning of their respective stories. As they told me about the departure and arrival within their tales, I wanted to emulate them reaching for one another through this storm of uncertainty that all stems from the shores of their homes. In the middle, you find the creation of the life that follows this journey. For many years I waded between the worlds that made up my heritage and it weighed heavy on my conscious, as it may for many others born into this world mixed.

My works are a celebration of cross-cultural unions; a celebration of the courage to let go and have the current carry you beyond familiarity; a celebration of the mosaic that forms a mixed person’s story through the intertwining of the many worlds that have formed us."

"Traces of Us is a group exhibition consisting of six installation-based artists who connect audiences to the cultural elements of their diasporic communities. This multi-disciplinary exhibition connects guests to the work of Chinese, Moroccan, Iranian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, and South Indian diasporic artists. Their work activates the space through a variety of media; motion graphics, silk and sound, film and sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, and virtual reality. Each medium is derivative or inspired by the artist’s diasporic histories, bridging their familial stories to present time. As viewers explore this environment, they enter spaces inspired by the artist's lived experiences or familial heritage."
All 3 works were created in Blender 3D, rendered in Cycles and edited in Davinci Resolve. Original music composed by myself.
